This is a portrait of John VanSteenberg. It was achieved without use of film! The camera was a Kodak DCS260 set on the "flash off" mode. The exposure was auto. The light source was a large window light which had the added benefit of an exterior "overhang". The camera was "handheld." The resulting image was recorded onto a Kodak smart card, which was then placed into a PCMCIA card adapter, and inserted into the slot of a windows based lap top computer. The file was then opened in Photoshop and further manipulated. I saw John as a kind of rectangular peg in an oval hole. Someone who may "snorkel" through one plane while operating on an entirely different one. He is multidimensional while being focused. He is multileveled even when dealing with a definitive. It seems entirely possible that John, on occasion, has purposely cracked open his head to insert a straw with which to "sip" the universe. His universe is filled with quantum mechanics, art, mystery and the wonder of it all. This portrait is not just a representation of Johns "exterior," it clearly visualizes the times that Johns mind smiled just before turning into a rainbow! |
